We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today, April 4, 2024, on this case bundle which deals with two videos posted to Facebook. The videos contain clips from October 7th 2023 showing two different women being kidnapped by Hamas. Both of these images were shared widely in the aftermath of the attacks.
Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Dangerous Organizations and Individuals policy that was in place on the day they were removed, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards. However, after the Board brought the cases to our attention, we restored the posts to our platform consistent with our policy guidance after updates made on October 20th and November 16th 2023.
There will be no further updates to this case.
