We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with an image posted to Instagram that is accompanied by a caption inquiring about members of the Azov Battalion who have been captured by Russia. The caption asks about the conditions of their captivity, such as if they have access to warmth and medication, and advocates that the public not forget about them.
Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Designated Organizations and Individuals policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards and Instagram Community Guidelines. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated the post.
There will be no further updates to this case.
