We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today, August 1, 2024, on this case which deals with an image posted to Facebook showing a drawing of Yesenia Zamudio, a Mexican woman whose daughter, María de Jesús Jaimes Zamudio, was killed in 2016. The image contains a quote from the mother about her quest for justice which states, “Whoever wants to break something break it, whoever wants to burn something burn it, and if you don’t then don’t interfere.”

Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Violence and Incitement policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards. However, after the Board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated the post.

There will be no further updates to this case.
