We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with an image posted to Facebook with a caption that says a hotel in Ethiopia should be burned down because it is owned by a prominent general in the Ethiopian military.
Upon initial review, Meta left this content up. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined the content violated our Violence and Incitement policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards, and removed the content. Meta removes content that “calls for high-severity violence” which includes places where people could be hurt or killed.
There will be no further updates to this case.
