We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with a Facebook user’s post that links to a YouTube video created by a Bangladeshi atheist concerning Atheists and Islamic scholars in Bangladesh. The thumbnail of the video includes a photo of an Islamic scholar and the accompanying caption suggests Islamic scholars are afraid to debate Atheists.
Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Coordinating Harm and Promoting Crime policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated the post.
There will be no further updates to this case.
