We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with a Facebook post containing a link to a news article in English about a gunman firing at a church in Sri Lanka. The auto-generated headline and caption referenced the country being on high alert six years after Easter Sunday bombings killed hundreds of people and featured an image of the aftermath of a bombing in April 2019 at St. Sebastian's Church in the city of Negombo.
Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Violence and Incitement policy, as laid out in the Meta Community Standards. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated the post.
