Today, June 30, 2026, the Oversight Board selected a case bundle appealed by Instagram users regarding two videos posted to Instagram by accounts during large anti-government protests across Iran from December 2025 to February 2026. Both accounts had a code in their usernames associated with a pro-Iranian hacking group and were also created less than two months before the content was posted.
The first piece of content, posted in June 2025, concerns an image of a man in military-style clothing captioned in Farsi reading: “Just a bit of patience, Iran.” The text over the image states: “The sound of the Iranian people’s unity is making your bodies tremble, isn’t it? By Imam Hussein, we will drive the world into shock. We have been sleeping in our combat gear, we’ve been waiting for you.”
The second piece of content, posted in January 2026, concerns a short video of what appears to be a motorcycle convoy of Iranian government security personnel driving through a city with a caption in Farsi stating, “We are devoted and will sacrifice to this country and regime until our last breath.” The caption contains hashtags, including #Iran, #Special_Unit, #Protest, and #Unrest. The video is set to music with a voice singing a message claiming they will sacrifice their lives for Iran and the regime.
Meta determined the posts did not violate our policy on Misinformation, as laid out in the Community Standards, and left the content up.
