Post Stating “Stop Hiring Khmer People”
UPDATED MAR 3, 2026
Summary Decision 2026-024-FB-UA
We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case, which deals with a Facebook post in Thai urging others not to support shops or companies employing Cambodians. The post contains a photo of uniformed individuals at a construction site alongside a caption stating “#Stop hiring Khmer people.” The post was made in the context of border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia that resulted in civilian casualties and prompted thousands of Cambodian migrants to leave Thailand.
Upon initial review, Meta left this content up. However, after the Board brought the case to our attention, we determined the content violates our Hateful Conduct policy, as laid out in the Meta Community Standards, and removed the content. Meta removes content that “calls for exclusion or segregation when targeting people based on protected characteristics,” including economic exclusion that denies access to the labor market.
There will be no further updates to this case.
