We welcome the Oversight Board's summary decision today, September 1, 2026, on this case bundle. Two Instagram users appealed Meta's decisions to remove videos depicting graphic content from Iran, shared in awareness-raising contexts during nationwide anti-government protests.
Upon initial review, Meta took down both pieces of content for violating our policy on Violent and Graphic Content, as laid out in the Community Standards. However, upon additional review, we determined we removed the content in error and reinstated both posts with a warning screen, restricting visibility to adults over the age of 18.
The Board overturned Meta's original decisions to remove both posts. There will be no further updates to this case.
