We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with four pieces of content posted to Facebook, all of which reference and/ or share an image of Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. In addition, all four pieces of content are accompanied by a quote attributed to Goebbels which posits that if a lie is told enough times, it will be perceived as the truth. In each instance, the content does not glorify or support the Nazi regime but includes neutral and informative descriptions of the Nazi regime’s campaign to normalize falsehoods.
Upon initial review, Meta removed each of these four pieces of content for violating our Dangerous Organizations and Individuals policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the pieces of content in error and reinstated each post.
