Corruption Claims Involving Politician’s Children

UPDATED NOV 20, 2025
Today, September 9, 2025, the Oversight Board selected a case referred by Meta regarding a Facebook post containing two images and a caption accusing a Filipino politician of corruption. One photo depicts the politician's family, including children. The other photo is of an unidentified plane flying over water. The caption in Tagalog accuses the politician of corruption by allegedly hiding the purchase of a plane under his children's names, suggests that by doing so he puts his family's safety and security at risk, and ends with "Hindi ka namin patahimikin" which Meta translated to "We will hunt [you] down."
Meta determined that the content did not violate our policies on Violence and Incitement or Bullying and Harassment, as laid out in the Meta Community Standards, and left the content up.
Meta referred this case to the board because we found it significant and difficult as it creates tension between our values of safety, voice and dignity.
We will implement the Board's decision once it has finished deliberating, and will update this post accordingly. Please see the Board's website for the decision when they issue it.
