AI-Generated Video of Hungarian Politician
UPDATED APR 24, 2026
Standard Case 2026-029-FB-UA
Today, April 23, 2026, the Oversight Board selected a case appealed by a Facebook user regarding an eight-second video that appears to depict Hungarian politician Péter Magyar expressing exaggerated frustration with the prevalent practice in Hungary of robocalling - using phone calls as a campaign tool. The video appears to be AI-generated due to inauthentic facial expressions and speaking style. The caption references a prior incident where the politician left an interview and comments that the video shows why he was “raging” in the interview.
Meta determined that this content did not violate our policies on Misinformation, as laid out in the Community Standards, and left the content up. Under our Misinformation policy, Meta removes “misinformation where it is likely to directly contribute to the risk of imminent physical harm” or interfere with the functioning of political processes. Meta also determined it would not merit an informative AI label and notes that the video seems intended for comedic effect, making it unlikely that it creates a particularly high risk of materially deceiving the public on a matter of public importance.
We will implement the Board’s decision once it has finished deliberating, and we will update this post accordingly. Please see the Board’s website for the decision when they issue it.
