We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today, May 13, 2025, on this case which deals with a video posted to Facebook containing graphic footage of violence in Syria. The accompanying caption describes how the content shows scenes of massacres participated in by the “criminal Party of Satan in Syria” and claims that people have not and will not forget these crimes. “Party of Satan” appears to be a reference to Hezbollah.
Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Violent and Graphic Content policy, as laid out in the Meta Community Standards. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated the post with a warning screen.
There will be no further updates to this case.
