We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today, May 13, 2025, on this case which deals with a reply to a Facebook comment that included a link to a Wikipedia article about Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The original Facebook comment referred to HTS as “Islamists from Al-Qaeda.” Another user replied stating that HTS is one of the groups that drove the Assad regime out of Syria and linked to a Wikipedia article about HTS.
Upon initial review, Meta removed this content for violating our Dangerous Organizations and Individuals policy, as laid out in the Meta Community Standards. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated the post.
There will be no further updates to this case.
