We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case bundle for two pieces of content that deal with providing education about ovulation.
The first piece of content is a comment on a post in a Facebook Group intended for people suffering with conditions related to reproductive health and menstrual issues. The comment includes a photo of 4 different types of cervical mucus and corresponding fertility levels, with a description of each overlaid on the photo.
The second piece of content concerns a video posted to Instagram depicting someone’s hand over a sink with vaginal discharge on the person’s fingers. The accompanying caption discusses the topic of ovulation and how to recognize it.
For both cases, upon initial review, Meta removed the content for violating our Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards and Instagram Community Guidelines. However, after the board brought the cases to our attention, we determined that we had removed the content in error and reinstated both posts.
There will be no further updates to this case.
