Our Approach to Political Content

We want you to have a valuable experience when you use Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, which is why we use AI systems to personalize the content you see based on the choices you make. As part of this, we aim to avoid making recommendations on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads that could be political in nature, in line with our approach of not recommending certain types of content and accounts to those who don’t wish to see them. On Facebook, we do this on In-Feed Recommendations, Video, Groups You Should Join, and Pages You May Like including from politicians’ accounts. This approach was extended to Instagram in Reels, Explore, and In-Feed Recommendations, as well as to Threads, impacting In-Feed Suggestions, Suggested Accounts, and Notifications.

On Facebook, we’ve spent the last few years refining our approach to political content in Feed to deliver the content users find most valuable. As part of this effort, we now rely less on engagement signals--such as how likely you are to comment on or share content--when ranking political content in Feed since we've found that they are not reliable indicators that the content is valuable to someone. However, if people still want to see political content, there are controls on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads that you can use to see more political content if you want. Learn more about adjusting your political content settings on Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

In addition, we offer other tools that allow you to personalize your experience on Facebook, Instagram and Threads.
